Performer’s Certificate

Prerequisites:

  • Demonstrated passion for the art of singing. This passion could be demonstrated in numerous and creative ways, but would include evidence of decisions, life choices, and activities requiring commitment to singing that included time and effort spent immersed in its study or performance.
  • Completed Application Form, including a statement of purpose as to how the student believes that working toward the Certificate will serve their stated musical, vocal, personal, or professional goals.
  • Payment of $75 Application Fee.
  • Satisfactory completion of Vocal Mastery Level 1 and Musicianship Level 1.
  • A recommendation from one of our Faculty for admission into the program. The recommending faculty will serve as the student’s Mentor throughout the program.

Requirements for Obtaining Certification:

  • Satisfactory completion of ‘Voice Mastery’ Class Levels I through IV and ‘Metaphysical Musicianship’ Class Levels I and II.
  • The satisfactory passing of a musicianship skill assessment exam. The student agrees to re-enroll in Musicianship Level 2 until the exam is passed.
  • An additional 12 weeks of private study with one of our Apprentice Teachers under the guidance of the Faculty Mentor to prepare for a performance-ready repertoire in the style or genre of the student’s choice.
  • The student agrees to continue private study until the Faculty Mentor can certify that the student is performance-ready.
  • The satisfactory completion of a solo or joint concert (with one other Certificate candidate):
  • 30 minutes of music for each performer.
    • If classical music:
      • Will include repertoire in at least one language other than English and from two different style periods.
      • Will include a collaborative pianist.
    • If non-classical music:
      • Can be all original material; or
      • Can include works of numerous composers; or
      • Can include a collaborative musician or can self-accompany on keyboards or guitar.
    • All music will be memorized and performed accurately and beautifully in the sole discretion of the faculty
    • Inclusion of spoken program notes in which the audience is educated about the music sung (does not count towards 30 minute requirement).
  • Payment of a $250 Recital Fee to cover administrative costs, including the printing of programs.
  • The Institute will assist the performer in any possible way to recommend and obtain potential performance venues, for which an additional fee may be charged by the venue.
